How Long To Wait Before Wet Sanding Spray Paint

Im just curious if anyone ever paints without wet sanding primer? Im about to paint an sometime 66 Impala SS, and am doing it at the customers house. The h2o he has at that place is super hard, and im afraid of the affects information technology may have. I have it all blocked out, and DA'd with 400 grit. If you tin dry sand before painting, what would you employ as a terminal grit (on a da) dry?

I have hard water too. It would be ok to wet sand. Just, if its all blocked with 400 and you lot dont want to moisture sand for what ever reason, seal it offset if its a metalic color. If its a solid color you can jusy beginning spraying

I painted another car for him and had issues with the pigment bubbling. I basis the bubbles and diddnt run across anything nether them? Leads me to belive information technology had something to do with the water?? I accept washed several paint jobs in the by, and NEVER had any problem. I just dont want to create whatsoever more problems than necessary. So I would like to just avoid water. I prefer wet sanding, simply has me scared now.

I never wetsand I hate the mess information technology makes. I clean my paper with a old scuff pad from time to fourth dimension to continue it cutting.

We wet sand our primer prior to painting, nosotros've been doing it in this manor for nearly 40 years and have never had a trouble with moisture. Of class we allow the surface to dry well before painting. Moisture sandpaper cuts more than evenly considering the residue from sanding does not collect on on the paper while sanding. Of course sanding on a porous surface can cause the moisture to exist captivated then you need to discriminate on which products to wet and dry sand, for this reason we never sand body filler wet.

u can try to use 600 grit dry out sand newspaper, but it clogs also quickly sometimes....
dont be afraid to wet sand.....but, to avert those "water spots" from minerals, yous must wipe sanding residue and water immediately..
also wipe off any big aerosol of water, they are the ones that can leave a picayune ring that is visible...

I know painters that never wet sand, they dry out sand everything.
nothing wrong with that.
(I do it both ways, usually wet when it'due south hot and dry when information technology's cold in the winter)

I take wet sanded every paint task I have always done. I like the way it looks before I pigment and information technology seems to be a little less agressive and doesnt clog very easily. I but really feel the water had something to do with the issues I had. I e'er wipe well with wax and grease remover, simply the last job has me nervouse. Maybe I will become some distilled water and put information technology in a spray bottle. Ugh! I just deceit make up one's mind....

If you apply warm water in Winter it'll take the sting out of it.

Water sucked for me in the winter.... I had no drain in the store!

I have been wet sanding using a mixture of glass cleaner and isopropal booze in a spray canteen for my final 500 wet sanding before paint. go along it wet to sand and so spray again and wipe it off in i direction only with microfibre towels or paper towels. dont use the same towel over and over. 1 piece or towel per wipe, it will also remove any handprints and finger prints and will evaporate very apace and wont cause whatever flash rusting. i can get a gallon of drinking glass cleaner for $3 and a quart of 91% alcohol for $iii making enough to do the unabridged motorcar with. if y'all apply microfibre towels exercise non employ detergent to clean them with, the detergent will get out a residue in microfibre towels, i know this because i piece of work in an industrial laundry and we merely clean ours with a alkalai solution, 48 oz per 3000 gallons of water at 145* for 10 minutes and so we accept 5 - five minute rinses after that. practise not dry them using and softner sheets at all.

What does that mixture do for you lot also get you lot high on the fumes?

Why not just bring a couple of v gallon pails of water with you lot.....apply your ain water.

Fumes??? ummmm i either sand exterior or if i have to sand within i usually have fans running anyhow, I am Dallas, Texas, home of high temps and loftier humidity. So in that location are fumes? But what makes the solution improve than water? Is it that the dust doesn't settle to the bottom? Is that bad?

When I wet sand I'm continually rinsing the sanding powder off the surface with a sponge or hose.
